About
I am writing this blog for my wife, who has been studying English for almost 20 years. Her English is good, but not perfect. Hopefully, this blog will be helpful to anyone studying English at a high level, but it is aimed at Chinese learners. 有的时候我会用中文写, 但是我的中文真的很差。 I will post a lot of vocabulary, slang, and usage notes that you need to know if you live in the US. I am a native speaker of English (American).
There are several reasons that advanced students of English can’t understand TV shows, movies, or the conversations they hear native speakers having every day:
- Lack of specific vocabulary. For example, you know what a “dog” is, but you don’t know what an “Irish Setter” is (a specific type of dog).
- Slang and idioms.
- Regional accents.
Do not underestimate the importance of vocabulary. When I get lost in Chinese, most of the time it is due to the fact that I simply don’t know enough words. The only way to overcome this problem is memorization.
感动ing…
I wish I had such a good husband.

Yue,
Glad you could make it here. You still have the best English I have ever seen in any non-native speaker, without a doubt.
